I think this new layout is a bit nicer on the eyes and focuses more on the content of the page.
We have gotten positive comments on both however, so I thought I'd put up a poll out of curiosity.
Below is a screen shot of our old layout.

I like the new template because its much easier on the eyes. :)
I think they are both nice! but I agree that the second one is easier on the eyes.

the old one was pretty but I prefer this one nicer template :)
